Climate change is an education problem

There's an uncomfortable tension to be honest about: digital technology has its own carbon footprint. Data centres, streaming video, device manufacturing and constant hardware turnover all consume energy and resources. EdTech that ignores this is part of the problem it claims to help solve.
Sustainable or 'green' EdTech takes the footprint seriously - favouring energy-efficient and low-bandwidth design, extending device lifespans rather than encouraging constant upgrades, and being thoughtful about when high-resource tools (like heavy video or VR) are genuinely worth their cost. Resilience and sustainability have to be pursued together, not traded off.
Teaching climate literacy
Beyond continuity, technology helps education do something climate resilience ultimately depends on: preparing students to understand and act on climate change. Digital tools bring real-world climate data, simulations and global collaboration into the classroom, making an abstract, planetary problem tangible and local.
