What chapter-wise weightage actually means
Chapter-wise weightage is an estimate of how many questions (and therefore marks) a given chapter has historically contributed to the exam, derived by analysing previous years' papers. It's a probability-based guide - 'this chapter has usually delivered several questions' - not a fixed rule that the pattern will repeat exactly.
This matters because students often treat weightage tables as guarantees and make risky decisions ('this chapter is only worth two marks, I'll skip it'). The honest way to read weightage is as a prioritisation signal: it tells you where to spend more time and attention, while the exam retains the right to surprise you.
How weightage is distributed in NEET
The single biggest structural fact is that Biology is half the paper, so its internal weightage has the largest impact on your total. Within Biology, human physiology, genetics and evolution, and ecology have consistently been among the heaviest contributors, with cell biology, plant physiology, reproduction and biotechnology also well-represented.
In Chemistry, weight is spread across organic, inorganic and physical, with certain chapters in each (like chemical bonding, the p-block, thermodynamics and equilibrium) recurring strongly. In Physics, mechanics and electrodynamics typically lead, followed by modern physics, optics and thermodynamics. For exact, current figures, always analyse the most recent official papers rather than trusting an old table.

Why weightage shifts - and why that's fine
Weightage is not fixed. The exam body can rebalance emphasis, syllabi get revised, and any single year can deviate from the average. That's exactly why you should never build your plan around a rigid table or skip 'low-weight' chapters - a chapter that averaged two questions can quietly deliver more in your year, and those marks are decisive at NEET's brutal cut-offs.
The productive response is to use weightage for sequencing while keeping full coverage. Study the heaviest chapters first and most deeply, give medium-weight chapters solid attention, and cover low-weight chapters enough to grab the questions they do bring. Weightage sets your priorities; it doesn't hand you permission to leave marks on the table.
