Every question is generated fresh by AI and calibrated to your level - clear a level and the next one gets harder. Miss one and the AI tutor explains Ecology until it sticks, then aims a follow-up at the gap. Want to grind one level? Start the quiz and type that sub-topic as your own.

Exam focus

How Ecology is asked

Widely regarded as the best return on study time in NEET Biology: it is largely factual, has few interlinked dependencies, and can be prepared late without leaving gaps elsewhere. Almost all of it is answerable directly from NCERT, and the numerical content is limited to the two population growth models and the ecological pyramids.

Ecology formulas worth memorising

QuantityFormula
Exponential growthdN/dt = rN
Logistic growthdN/dt = rN(K − N)/K
Population density changeN(t+1) = N(t) + (B + I) − (D + E)
Ten percent law≈10% of energy transfers to the next trophic level

Common mistakes in Ecology

  • Confusing the exponential and logistic growth curves. Exponential growth is J-shaped with unlimited resources; logistic is S-shaped and levels off at the carrying capacity K. Questions describe the situation rather than naming the model.
  • Assuming all ecological pyramids are upright. The pyramid of energy is always upright, but the pyramid of numbers can be inverted for a single tree with many insects, and the pyramid of biomass is inverted in aquatic ecosystems.
  • Mixing up the interspecific interactions. Commensalism benefits one and does not affect the other; mutualism benefits both; amensalism harms one and does not affect the other - and NEET asks these as scenarios rather than definitions.
  • Treating biodiversity hotspot criteria loosely. A hotspot requires both exceptional endemism and significant habitat loss, and questions test whether you know both conditions apply.
  • Forgetting that energy flow is unidirectional while nutrients cycle. Energy enters as sunlight and leaves as heat; nutrients are recycled - a distinction NEET asks about directly.

NEET Ecology Quiz - FAQs

Is Ecology worth prioritising in NEET Biology?

For most students, yes. It is largely factual, sits mostly within NCERT, and does not depend on earlier units - so it converts study hours into marks faster than Genetics or Plant Physiology. It is a sensible unit to secure fully before tackling the harder ones.

Why is only about ten percent of energy passed to the next trophic level?

Because most of the energy at each level is used in respiration and lost as heat, and some biomass is never consumed or is not digestible. That loss is why food chains rarely extend beyond four or five levels - there is not enough energy left to support another.

Is the neet ecology quiz free?

Yes - completely free, with no sign-up required. Type a topic, press start, and the AI generates an adaptive Ecology quiz with an explanation for every answer.

Can teachers host this neet ecology quiz live for a class?

Yes - create a free teacher account, host a live room on "Ecology", and students join with a 6-character code at quff.in/join. No student accounts needed.
